I've enjoyed every book I've read by Harley Hahn. My first introduction to his writing was when I saw a copy of Harley Hahn Teaches the Internet lying on the table, when I was visiting my cousin. I picked it up, and was soon engrossed. When I got home from that weekend, I ordered my own copy, which I read from start to finish.

You might think that reading about DNS servers and Anonymous FTP would be a bit boring, rather like revising for an exam. However, Harley's great strength is that he can make even dull and dry subjects, interesting and entertaining to read about. His books are enjoyable to read, and at the same time you're learning a great deal.

I was lucky enough to be sent a copy of his Yellow Pages for 2002. As its name suggests, this is a directory of websites and is extremely thorough. It comes with a CD, which puts the information directly on your computer. Again, it is enjoyable just to dip in and read from time to time, and a good way to learn more facts about the internet, or increase your general knowledge.

The most recent book of Harley's, Harley Hahn's Internet Insecurity, I read a few months ago. It's a fascinating look at the lifestyle issues which arise from using the internet. Topics discussed include privacy, online buying and selling, email, computer viruses, how the internet works, sex and relationships, and how to keep details of your internet use from being able to be tracked.

The internet has thrown up unique problems, issues which even 10 years ago, people never needed to worry about. Our increasing ability to make contact and probe the lives of other people, has led to a lot of new situations we don't really have the experience to be able to handle.

This book was published at a very apt time for me, and was a big help in understanding why an email relationship had gone badly wrong. I derived quite a bit of comfort from the section on relationships and saw myself in several places. Again, the book was written in such a style that made it entertaining and enjoyable to read - even topics I would normally have thought of as being less than enthralling. There are some wonderful "sidetracks" in the book, where you are taken down a less relevant, but fascinating road for a while. All in all, I can thoroughly recommend these books:
